The Band “City of Voltri” was founded in 1838 and is one of the oldest bands in Liguria.

In 1847 its name was Filarmonica Voltrese and, thanks to the interest of Nicola Mameli, Mayor of Voltri and brother of the most famous Goffredo, poet and Genoese patriot, participated in the streets of Genoa to an important procession on the occasion of which it played together with other Genoese bands in “world premiere” and in the presence of the author the hymn “Fratelli d’Italia”.
On 17 March 1872 the Voltrese Philharmonic attended the solemn funeral of Giuseppe Mazzini and for several years afterwards had the privilege of visiting his tomb in the monumental cemetery of Staglieno to commemorate his death.

The importance of this Association has always been particularly felt in Voltri; a demonstration of it is the fact that, for a certain period of time between the two Wars, the owners of several paper mills donated various musical instruments. Concrete aid also came from the then Municipal Administration Voltrese that regularly paid the conductor, as well as from merchants and private citizens.

In 1988 the 150th anniversary was celebrated with demonstrations, concerts and parades; a book was published on this occasion to which the former President of the Republic Sandro Pertini participated by sending a telegram.

On 9 July 1999, on the occasion of the 161st anniversary, the Municipality of Genoa presented a gold medal to the Banda Musicale Città di Voltri with an official ceremony, as recognition for its commitment in its more than 150 years of activity.

In December 2018, to celebrate the 180th anniversary of its foundation, the band organized an exhibition of photographs, ancient instruments and historical scores in the hall of Municipio VII Ponente.

The band, within its mission of APS enrolled in the Third Sector, promotes in the district of Voltri and in the Genovese Ponente musical education to people of all ages and participates in the main secular and religious celebrations of the municipality.
