Complesso Bandistico Vanzaghellese

Italy - Vanzaghello, Milano

The Complesso Bandistico Vanzaghellese ETS was established in 1977, thanks to the initiative of residents who wanted to revive the village band that had disbanded after World War II. Their efforts were supported by parents who hoped to bring young people together and introduce them to the culture and art of music.

The group’s founder and first President was Piermario Fassi. Under his leadership, children between the ages of 7 and 13—most of whom had no prior musical experience—began their journey toward forming a true musical ensemble. Much of the credit goes to the band’s first conductor – Carlo Lamperti – who, with great dedication and effort, inspired and taught these young musicians.

With passion and support of council members, musicians, and many friends of the band, the ensemble’s cultural, social, and educational role was elevated throughout the years —a priority that has always been at the heart of the association.

From 1988 to 2019, the band was conducted by Maestro Alberto Ranieri Manzalini, whose outstanding leadership and musical expertise significantly raised the ensemble’s artistic level and reputation. Over its 47-year history, the band has participated in numerous festivals, concerts, and musical exchanges, both in Italy and abroad.

Today, the ensemble is made up of 36 musicians, many of whom are very young. Since March 2023, it has been conducted by Maestro Davide Casafina, who also serves as artistic director. He plays a key role in maintaining the group’s unity and enthusiasm, continually enriching their cultural and musical knowledge. The repertoire spans original compositions for concert band, classical music, jazz, and rock.

At times, the ensemble also features keyboard, guitar, and electric bass. The association runs annual music courses for people of all ages, focusing on wind and percussion instruments, taught by professional teachers who are conservatory graduates. Since March 2008, the association has been represented by President Francesco Fassi.
