The non-profit Calatafimi Segesta Cultural Musical Association was founded in 2006 following the merger between the two existing entities in Calatafimi: the Big Band Calatafimi Segesta, active for over a decade, and the historic Banda Segesta, whose origins date back to before 1900. It is the result and the continuation of an ultra-secular cultural musical tradition of bands. It can therefore be said that our is one of the oldest bands in the Province of Trapani.
Currently the association has a staff of about 70 elements with a very high female presence.
There are several Masters who are part of the association, who in harmony with the artistic director M ° Anna Gandolfo and with the effective stimulus of the President Francesco Mazara, have been able to create a basic music school for children such as to expand, in a few years the staff of the band. It is precisely among the youngest that this musical culture has led children to choose to continue their musical studies: in fact a large number have been admitted to attend the “A. Scontrino” State Music Conservatory of Trapani. Many of them today are teachers and have started their careers in music teaching.
The musical repertoire that the association carries out on various occasions ranges from classical to modern, from folk to religious and finally to the band repertoire. There are various events in which the association is present such as those of a religious nature where Calatafimi Segesta finds very solid roots, just remember the great May festival of the Holy Crucifix in which the Band is one of the protagonists.
Many concerts are organized, both in the Christmas period and in the Summer, concerts ranging from melodramatic opera to concert-Film with soundtracks accompanying clips of famous films. The band is also present in Trapani area at numerous band gatherings receiving applause and favorable reviews as well as present for several years in the famous procession of the Mysteries of Trapani. We also recall the participation in the events included in the scenario of the millennial theater of Segesta: the participation on the stage of the opera Boheme by Puccini and that relating to the sixtieth anniversary of the Italian constitution, held there in the presence of the mayors and the main institutional offices of the province of Trapani. Collaborations with the Fe.Ba.Si Youth Orchestra in the nights dedicated to the summer events of the ancient theater of Segesta. Concert “Viva Verdi” in memory of the great composer on his bicentenary of his birth.
