The Scuola e Banda Musicale di Pra – Carlo Colombi is one of the oldest and most prestigious musical associations in Liguria. It was founded in Pra on 31st October 1869, and from its earliest days the association has stood out for the high quality of its classical and operatic repertoire, earning numerous accolades in the popular philharmonic competitions of the time—including a notable victory at the National Competition in 1906.
Starting in 1970, while continuing to perform traditional band duties during parades, public events, and religious processions, the C. Colombi ensemble evolved into a modern orchestra. This transformation included the addition of a rhythm section—featuring electric piano, guitar, bass, drums, and percussion—as well as a professional sound mixing and amplification system.
In 1984 it was honored with the F. Sacco Prize in recognition of its contributions to the local community. The Big Band, directed by Maestro Massimo Rapetti, features more than 20 musicians and offers audiences a vibrant and diverse repertoire. Their music spans genres such as swing, jazz, and classical themes with modern arrangements.
Each year, the association hosts music courses, offering instruction in wind, string, and percussion instruments. Since 2017, the association has also developed a Junior Band, made up of young students from the music school. Today, the association includes around 100 students and 150 members.
In 1994, the association established a local cultural committee, which has since been actively involved in rediscovering and promoting the traditions and cultural heritage of Pra neighborhood. The committee organizes Genoese language courses, cultural events, and works continuously to enrich the local historical archive.
