Italy – Genova Pontedecimo

The musical band N. S. della Guardia di Pontedecimo was founded in 1880 to integrate and complete the activities of the newly established and homonymous Catholic workers’ society, as the first band nucleus of the entire Valpolcevera under the direction of Bartolomeo Grondona.

During the 140 years of history many personalities were able to mark the artistic development of the band and, through various initiatives, led to the creation of today’s formation. A rewarding and distinctive part of the current work of the band of Pontedecimo is the activity of musical training expecially since 2011 thanks to a training program developed by Professor Gian Enrico Cortese, aimed at the creation of a music workshop for primary school students. This allowed to revitalize the activities of the school of music, create the Junior Band, accompany many students to a course of study at the Conservatory of Genoa and include new elements in the Band.
